Saturday, June 25 with 8-12 knots of wind from the NE was the perfect setting for our annual Singlehanded regatta. PRO Mike Romey and his Race Committee of Polli Romey, Ray Britt, Coleman Brydon on Wildfire and Pete Clay and Tom Armstrong on Doug Power set up an excellent twice around triangular course to make certain the sailors had to tack and jibe often testing their singlehanded boat handling skills.
George Kuper in Ty Affair (on loan from Danielle) got the best start near the committee boat with full speed at the gun. Close behind George were Ned Crockett in Ladybug and Stan Crocket in Miss Daisy. Tom Chapman in Hot Air was further down the line but in good position.
Gusts shifted 20-30 degrees and near the windward mark which was near shore the wind lightened considerably making calling the lay lines a challenge.
New member Ed Johnson was out in his impressive Hippo, a boat Ed both designed and built! At 28 feet the largest boat in the regatta. Other participants included Tom Blencowe in Lil Elixir, Mike Kennedy in Radio Flyer, Greg Kirbride in Bella and Randy Romaine in his J-24 Gloria.
At the finish it was Tom Chapman in Hot Air first, Ned Crockett in Ladybug second and Stan Crockett in Miss Daisy third. Many other Typhooners were looking for go fast advice from the Crockett brothers after the award ceremony.
