Two days covering the basics of sailing using RRYC Foundation Zests. By the end of the two days, adult sailors should feel confident about sailing a dinghy either alone or with a partner and should be competent to sign out a Foundation dinghy to sail and continue their development.
Topics covered will include:
Parts of boat. Sail controls. Understanding wind.
Rigging the boat and raising sails. Launch and recovery.
Points of sail. Steering a course. Moving round the boat. Tacking & Gybing.
Upwind & Downwind sailing.
Weather awareness. Basic rules of the road.
Essential knots.
Cost $100.
Structure of the course will be a chalk and talk on the RRYC deck, followed by on-land drills then on-the-water practice. Each morning and afternoon will follow a similar structure. Mercy Duff will lead the course. Mercy is a qualified US Sailing Small Boat instructor and when not studying at JMU is providing coaching at RRYC and Indian Creek.
Attendees will be required to complete a booking form and liability waiver (enclosed).
